Scooper Baseball Beats Stevens

Scoopers score two runs in bottom of seventh to beat Stevens

Gary Matthews - April 25, 2019

STURGIS, S.D. - Four errors in the bottom of the seventh inning cost Rapid City Stevens dearly as the Scoopers scored twice to beat them 5-4.

Leading 4-3, Stevens looked to have the game in hand. That was until Tristan Walter got on base, and advanced to second on a balk.

A past ball and errant throw brought home Walter. That was coupled by a fantastic bunt down the third base line by Cedrick Stabber and another errant throw that brought home Ridge Inhofer for the game-winning run.

Until then, the game was close the whole way.

Stevens scored first on an Alex Humke RBI that scored Carter Thomas. Sturgis would answer as David Anderson was walked home with the bases loaded.

Sturgis scored twice in the third inning to take a 3-1 lead, only to see Stevens score three in the fourth to take the lead back, 4-3.

For Sturgis, Inhofer finished 2 for 4 with an RBI. Gage Murphey got the pitching win and Tristan Walter got the save.

For Stevens, Humke and Cade Nedved each went 2 for 3. Carter Thomas struck out seven and gets the loss.

In other baseball action Thursday night, Hot Springs rolled to a 21-4 win over Lead-Deadwood.

The Bison scored 8 runs in the third inning and scored an additional 11 runs in the fifth to put the game away.
