Scoopers take two from SD School of Mines Baseball Club

Gary Matthews & Terry Anderson - March 30, 2019

STURGIS, S.D. - Sturgis swept two games away from the School of Mines Saturday in a baseball twin-bill at Strong Field.

Both games only went five innings courtesy of the Scooper offensive train.

In the first game, a 5-run fifth inning ended it early for the Scoopers as they beat the Hardrockers 10-0.

The Scoopers scored first in the bottom of the first as Cedrick Stabber came across home plate courtesy of an R.B.I. from Carl Nash.

Ryan Garland would score a run in the second off a Stabber R.B.I. and Josh West came home on a bases loaded walk in the third.

Two throwing errors by the Hardrockers brought two more runs in for Sturgis in the fourth before their big fifth inning.

Starting pitcher David Anderson got the win, pitching three strong innings and striking out two.

Nash had a big game, going four-for-four with two singles, two doubles and 3 R.B.I.'s. Garland went 2 for 3 with two singles.

In the second game, Sturgis would score 4 runs in the first inning, 6 in the third and 4 in the fourth to win 15-1.

Tristan Walter got the pitching win, striking out three.

Alec Keffeler went 3 for 4 with 2 singles and an R.B.I. to lead Sturgis in game two. Ryan Garland went 2 for 3 with 3 R.B.I.'s and scored 2 runs.

Nash had 3 R.B.I.'s and Josh West went 2 for 3, scoring 2 runs.
