Senator Thune returns home after feeling ill

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota Senator John Thune has returned home from Washington after becoming ill.

Thune’ press spokesman says the Senator woke up Wednesday morning and didn’t feel well, so he consulted with the attending physician and his physician in Sioux Falls.

Thune’s staffer says based on how he was feeling then and now, he was told there was no need for additional action at this point and was encouraged to continue self-monitoring.

Nevertheless, out of an abundance of caution, Thune decided to return home to South Dakota and will continue to consult with his doctor from there.

Thune told KELO-TV in Sioux Falls that he was advised by his doctor that self-quarantine was not required, but he wants to err on the side of caution.

The nation’s number two Senator took a charter flight from Sioux Falls with one member of his Capitol Police security detail. There were no other passengers.
