Sentencing delayed for man charged with manslaughter

News Staff - January 5, 2019

RAPID CITY, S.D. - Sentencing was delayed Friday for a Porcupine man charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Tyler Makes Him First faces prison time for the deaths of a family of three and their unborn child in a 2017 crash.

Judge Jeffrey Viken was forced to delay sentencing because Makes Him First tested positive for marijuana.

Makes Him First, who was out on bond, was taken into custody because he violated the terms of his pre-sentence.

Makes Him First is accused of driving intoxicated when he ran head on into a car carrying Waylon Red Elk, Sr., Jaylene Pretends Eagle, and their child. Pretends Eagle was also pregnant with another child. A blood test after the crash indicated Makes Him First had a blood alcohol content of 0.284.

Sentencing will now be rescheduled to a later date.
