South Dakota Harvests Lagging Behind Averages

UNDATED - For the week ending Sunday, there were 5.1 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 3 percent very short, 12 short, 79 adequate, and 6 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 8 percent very short, 23 short, 65 adequate, and 4 surplus.

Corn condition rated 5 percent very poor, 8 poor, 17 fair, 44 good, and 26 excellent. Corn harvested was 59 percent, near 57 last year, but behind 70 for the five-year average.

Soybeans harvested was 92 percent, behind 99 last year and 97 average.

Sorghum condition rated 1 percent very poor, 2 poor, 19 fair, 73 good, and 5 excellent. Sorghum harvested was 63 percent, behind 71 last year and 80 average.

Sunflowers harvested was 45 percent, well behind 66 last year, and behind 62 average.

Winter wheat condition rated 1 percent very poor, 7 poor, 33 fair, 58 good, and 1 excellent. Winter wheat emerged was 84 percent, behind 94 last year and 91 average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 8 percent very poor, 15 poor, 30 fair, 44 good, and 3 excellent.
