South Dakota Oat Harvest Nearly Complete

UNDATED - For the week ending Sunday, there were 5.9 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 12 percent very short, 28 short, 58 adequate, and 2 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 12 percent very short, 29 short, 57 adequate, and 2 surplus.

Corn condition rated 4 percent very poor, 8 poor, 23 fair, 47 good, and 18 excellent. Corn dough was 88 percent, well ahead of 62 last year, and ahead of 69 for the five-year average. Dented was 38 percent, well ahead of 12 both last year and average.

Soybean condition rated 5 percent very poor, 8 poor, 27 fair, 46 good, and 14 excellent. Soybeans setting pods was 91 percent, near 88 last year, and ahead of 85 average. Dropping leaves was 7 percent, ahead of 2 both last year and average.

Spring wheat harvested was 91 percent, near 87 last year, and well ahead of 70 average.

Oats harvested was 96 percent, ahead of 88 last year and 87 average.

Sorghum condition rated 0 percent very poor, 6 poor, 39 fair, 49 good, and 6 excellent. Sorghum headed was 89 percent, ahead of 83 last year, but near 90 average. Coloring was 28 percent, ahead of 21 last year and 23 average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 7 percent very poor, 14 poor, 38 fair, 38 good, and 3 excellent.
