South Dakota clears officers accused of sexual harassment

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota officials are dismissing complaints against four police officers accused of sexual harassment and retaliation against a woman who was sexually harassed.

The Division of Criminal Investigation says it didn’t find enough evidence to move forward with the complaints against three officers. The fourth officer, Brown County Deputy Ross Erickson, resigned after the state paid $1.2 million to a former investigator who complained that he sexually harassed her.

Two of the officers, Brown County Sheriff Mark Milbrandt and his Chief Deputy David Lunzman, were accused of retaliating after she complained.

The other officer cleared was Madison Police Officer Matthew Wollman, a former state legislator who resigned in 2017 after admitting sexual misconduct with legislative interns.

Republican state Senator Stace Nelson of Sioux Falls filed the complaints in March.
