Drug Charge-Court Appearance

Spearfish woman charged with drug distribution back in court

News Staff - November 7, 2018

DEADWOOD, S.D. - A Spearfish woman earlier found guilty of distribution of fentanyl analogs, but not guilty of manslaughter, was back in Fourth Circuit Court Tuesday morning.

Tuesday in court, Ashley Kuntz admitted to previous convictions, which would increase the maximum amount of time she could spend in prison.

Kuntz is one of nine Spearfish residents facing charges for allegedly distributing Fentanyl, which supposedly contributed to the January 2017 deaths of 38-year-old Troy Kuntz and 23-year-old Carrera Hall.

Defense attorney Joe Kosel asked Judge Eric Strawn to reinstate Kuntz's $2,500 bond, but Judge Strawn denied the request, saying she is a significant flight risk.

She faces a maximum penalty of 25 years in the penitentiary.

Kuntz is scheduled for sentencing on January 2.
