State A Wrestling Consolation Rounds complete

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The consolation rounds wrapped up Saturday afternoon as the State A Wrestling Tournament in Sioux Falls prepared for championship matches Saturday night.

Several area athletes were involved in the wrestlebacks, hoping to make it to the medal stand.

At 106 pounds, Evan Osborn of Sturgis worked his way to a matchup with Watertown’s Weston Everson. Everson got the victory, sending him on for a chance for third place and Osborn wrestled for a seventh place finish. Osborn would get that spot on a tough, 1-0 decision win over another fellow west river athlete; Josh Hoffman of Spearfish.

Grabbing third place at 106 was Rapid City Steven’s Jack Schoenhard, with a 6-0 decision win over Blake Judson of Pierre.

At 120 pounds, Kelton Olson was also a match away from wrestling for a possible third place finish, however Connor Eimers of Tea Area had other plans and got the win, sending Olson on to the fifth place match where he grabbed that spot with a win over Brayden Siemonsma of West Central. Olson picked up the win on a Fall at 4:50.

At 126 pounds, Clayton Donovan finished in 5th place with a win over Thomas McCoy of Belle Fourche. Darian Malone of Rapid City Stevens wrapped up a nice season with a third place finish on a 12-4 Major Decision over Jacob Vogel of Dell Rapids.

At 132, Perry Kettelsen of Sturgis wrapped up the season with a seventh place finish on a 5-4 major decision win over Peyton Fridrich of Beresford/Alcester-Hudson. Oakley Blakeman of Spearfish finished in 5th place with a 6-0 decision over Blessing Taniah of Sioux Falls Washington.

At 138 pounds, Kadyn Kraye of Rapid City Central was a match away from a third place attempt, but fell to Aaron Ideker of Sioux Falls O’Gorman. Not to be deterred, Kraye headed into the fifth place match, where he dropped a tough 7-4 decision to Tyson Johnson of Pierre – taking home sixth place.

At 145 pounds, Tyler Voorhees of Stevens brought home sixth place after an 11-2 decision loss to Logan Serch of Beresford/Alcester-Hudson.

At 152 pounds, Brett Konst of Sturgis open the day with a win over Kamren McCubbin of Washington and then defeated Mac Young of Watertown. With a chance to wrestle for the third place match, Konst dropped a tough match to Brayden Burrus of Rapid City Central. Konst would win fifth place on a 7-1 decision win over Mitchell’s Ryan McGinnis. Burrus would bring home fourth place after a loss to Pierre’s Jack Van Camp.

At 160 pounds, Reese Jacobs made the medal stand, bringing home a fifth place finish on a 7-4 decision win over Lexan Thorson of Watertown. Landin Winter of Rapid City Central won seventh place.

At 170 pounds, Wyatt Jungclaus worked his way to the third place match, where he brought home the medal with a win over Watertown’s Sam Stroup.

At 182, True Synhorst of Rapid City Stevens placed sixth with a loss in the fifth place match to Toby Schneck of Milbank.

At 195, Elijah Zuniga of Spearfish won seventh place on a 9-3 decision win over Dominic Tucker of Brandon Valley.

And, at 220 pounds, Evan Hehr capped off a great season with a 5-2 decision over Kobe Culver of Vermillion that won him a fifth place medal.

In the team standings, ahead of Saturday night’s championship rounds, Rapid City Stevens is back on top with 154 points. Watertown is second with 150.5 and Brandon Valley this third with 147. Sturgis is sitting in sixth.
