State COVID-19 cases increase 50 according to Dept of Health Saturday report

PIERRE, S.D. – The Fourth of July COVID-19 update from the Department of Health indicated 50 new cases and no new deaths.

Pennington County reported 10 new cases Saturday, giving them 556 cumulative and 130 active cases. Active cases in Pennington are up 5 from Friday.

Meade County numbers remained the same with 50 cumulative and 9 active. Lawrence County reported no new cases and added a new recovery. Lawrence now has only one active case.

Other new cases reported across western South Dakota Saturday include five in Oglala Lakota County, two in Mellette County, and one each in Corson County and Lyman County.

The statewide active caseload is 869, up 37 from Friday’s 832.

However, the number of people currently hospitalized has decreased from 58 Friday to 54 Saturday.
