State Cross Country 2019 crowns winners Saturday

HURON, S.D. - The 2019 South Dakota high school state cross country meet took place at the Broadland Creek Golf Course on Saturday in Huron.

For Class A, Custer won the state championship with its girls, while Sioux Falls Christian won it on the boys side. Hill City won second for the girls and St Thomas More boys came in third.

The boys of Burke won the state title in Class B - same as the Dakota Hills girls squad. Timeber Lake came in second in the boys and Wall placed second for the girls.

Sioux Falls Lincoln won state championships in both girls and boys in Class AA. Rapid City Stevens won third for the girls and boys.

Winning individual titles were the following:

Girls Class B went to Madison Fairley of Gayville-Volin in a time of 19:14.17. Jolie Dugan of Jones County came in second.

Cody Larson of Warner won the Class B Boys title in a time of 16:32.77. Bison's Jonathan Burkhalter was second.

In Class A Girls, Ali Bainbridge of Lennox crossed the finish line in first with a time of 18:54.63. Finishing in second was Abby Cutler of Hill City and Sara Jones of Lead-Deadwood came in third. Custer's Mallory Delmont came in fourth.

In Class A Boys, Sawyer Clarkson of Belle Fourche is state champion, finishing in a time of 16:24.14. Adam Consoer of Hot Springs was second and Jarek Glen of St Thomas More came in a respectable fourth place. Simeon Burnbaum of Rapid City Christian rounded out the top five.

In Class AA Girls, Alea Hardie of Sioux Falls O'Gorman won first in a time of 18:12.18. Mika Wentzy of Brandon Valley was second.

Top placing West River athlete was Hailey Uhre of Rapid City Stevens, who finished in 9th.

In Class AA Boys, Andrew Lauer of Sioux Falls Lincoln won first in a time of 15:42.60. Aaron Ryan of Aberdeen Central came in second. Top placing West River runner was Keenan Uridales of Spearfish in fourteenth.

Sturgis Scooper Nate Andersen came in 24th.
