State Cross Country races held at snowy Hart Ranch Saturday

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Cross Country Championships were run in the snow and cold at Hart Ranch south of Rapid City Saturday.

In Class AA, Josh Martin of Aberdeen Central captured first place in the boys race in a time of 15:55.34. Britton Elkin of Brandon Valley came in second place and Zeb Mendel of Sioux Falls Lincoln finished third.

Top placing area athlete was Simeon Birnbaum of Rapid City Stevens in 5th place.

Sioux Falls Lincoln finished in first in the team standing with Rapid City Stevens in second and Brandon Valley in third. Sturgis finished in eighth place.

In the Class AA girls, Sioux Falls O’Gorman won the team title with Lincoln second and Brandon Valley third. Rapid City Stevens was the top placing area team in fourth. Sturgis came in 13th.

Alea Hardie of O’Gorman won the girls race in a time of 17:58.70. Her teammate Katie Castelli finished in second. Top placing area athlete was Hailey Uhre of Stevens in 9th.

In Class A boys, Sioux Falls Christian captured the team title with Vermillion in second and St Thomas More in third and Custer in fourth.

Winning the boys race was Cody Farland of St Thomas More in a time of 16:15.55. Isaac Davelaar of Sioux Falls Christian finished in second Sawyer Clarkson of Belle Fourche finished in a solid third.

In Class A girls, Hill City won the team title with Sioux Falls Christian in second and Custer in third.

Winning the girls race was Abby Cutler of Hill City in a time of 19:16.57. Faith Weise of Flandreau finished in a close second and Paige Schmitt of Aberdeen Roncalli was third. Kadense Dooley of Custer finished in sixth.

In Class B boys, Bison won the team title and Freeman Academy was second with Northwestern in third and Newell in fourth.

Cody Larson of Warner won the boys race in a time of 15:54.61. Jonathan Burkhalter of Bison came in second with his teammate Lane Krautschun finishing in third. Garrett Winkler of Newell finished in a solid seventh place.

In the Class B girls race, Kimball/White Lake won the team title with Aberdeen Christian in second and Ipswich in third. Newell finished in fifth.

Winnin the girls race was Hallie Person of Burke in a time of 19:24.02. Madison Zirbel of Dakota Hills finished in second and Jada Koerner of Freeman Academy placed third. Lexa Burtzlaff of Newell finished in eighth.
