PIERRE, S.D. – The number of COVID-19 cases in South Dakota saw another double-digit increase in the latest update from the South Dakota Department of Health.
Health officials report 36 new positive tests statewide, bringing the state’s total to 165.
Lawrence County is now western South Dakota’s county with the most cases as three new positive tests were reported, bringing the county’s total to 9 – up 3 from yesterday. The county has also been placed onto the health department’s categorization of substantial community spread. It is the first west river county to be given that classification.
Pennington County also had an additional case, upping their total to 6. Meade County remained at one case as did Fall River County.
Minnehaha County saw an additional 14 positive tests, taking their total to 54. Beadle County has 21 and Lincoln County has 17.
State Epidemiologist Joshua Clayton says there were five new hospitalizations.
The total number of negative cases as of today is 4,217. So far, 57 total people have fully recovered from the virus.
