PIERRE, S.D. – For the first time in over a month, the state recorded over 100 new cases of COVID-19 in their latest report.
The Department of Health said Saturday there were 105 new positive tests, but no new deaths.
The high number of new infections could be due to a large number of tests that were performed Friday. The health department says a total of 2,423 new test results were conducted.
Despite the spike, the number of people hospitalized due to the virus remained stable. In fact, it was only up one to 46 from Friday.
A large number of the cases weren’t particularly found in the Black Hills area. Pennington County reported 7 new positive tests, giving them a cumulative total of 774 with 130 active cases. The number of active cases is down 3 from Friday.
There were no new cases being reported in Meade, Butte or Lawrence counties. Meade County has 8 active cases, Lawrence has 3 and Butte County also has 3.
Oglala Lakota County reported one new case Saturday. The county has 18 active cases – the same as Friday.
Other new cases across western South Dakota include four in Ziebach and one each in Tripp and Dewey counties.
The statewide active caseload rose 59 Saturday to 876.
The state’s death toll remains at 122.
