State records 106 new cases of COVID-19, active cases up over 1,000 for first time since June

STURGIS, S.D. – The Department of Health reported 106 new cases of COVID-19 and 2 new deaths in their Saturday report.

Of the two new deaths, both patients were female. One was reported in the 70-79 age range and the other was in the 80+ age range. They were from Minnehaha County and Pennington County.

The number of new cases continues to climb around the Black Hills. Pennington County reported 6 new cases, Meade County had 4 and Lawrence County had 6.

The active caseload in Pennington is 117, down 6 from Friday. Meade County’s active cases are up one today to 23 and Lawrence County’s active cases are up 5 to 25.

Elsewhere around the Black Hills region, Custer reported 3 new cases and Oglala Lakota had one.

The Statewide active caseload is up 41 today to 1,024.

South Dakota has surpassed 1,000 active coronavirus cases for the first time since June 8, when there were 1,003.

There are 48 people hospitalized, up one from Friday.
