State records 24 new deaths, 448 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Health showed 25 new COVID-19 related deaths in their Thursday report – sending the state’s death toll to 1,544 since the pandemic began.

The new deaths were 18 men and seven women with one being reported in the 30-39 age range. Other deaths were in the 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79 and 80-plus age ranges. In the Black Hills area, 4 of the deaths were out of Pennington  County.

New cases today totaled 448 with 157 of them listed as probable.

Active cases of the virus tumbled by 312 Thursday to 6,075 and the number of people hospitalized because of the virus remained at 264.

New cases across the Black Hills area included 59 in Pennington County, where the cumulative total rises to 11,673 with 818 remaining active.

Lawrence County added 7 new cases and Meade County had 6. Active cases in Meade County total 138 with 123 active in Lawrence County.

Other new cases around the Black Hills area today included 10 in Oglala Lakota, 3 each in Butte and Fall River and 2 in Custer.

The total number of new cases across West River counties was 124.
