State records 44 new cases of COVID-19 in Thursday report

Gary Matthews - July 30, 2020

PIERRE, S.D. – The Department of Health reported 44 new cases of COVID-19 in their Thursday report and no new deaths.

The state says numbers are back on a 24-hour time period after a delay affecting the daily data extraction earlier this week.

Around the Black Hills area, Pennington County reported eight new cases, giving them a cumulative total of 804 with 111 active cases.

Meade County reported one new case, sending the cumulative total to 69 with 10 currently active.

Other new cases around western South Dakota today include 2 in Dewey and one each in Mellette and Oglala Lakota counties.

South Dakota State Epidemiologist Joshua Clayton also gave an update on the outbreak involving Camp Judson where 61 total cases have now been reported.

"Information we have is that 75-percent of those individuals are teens. That does include a small number of individuals who would have been camp counselors in addition to those who would have been camp attendees. The severity of illness has been such that no one has been hosptalized at this time."

Clayton says there were a total of 328 names included on their list of people who were involved with Camp Judson.
