Stugis boys and girls drop regular season finale to RC Central

STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Scooper girls and boys basketball teams dropped their regular season finales to Rapid City Central on Monday night.

In the girls game, Central jumped out to a 13-4 lead after one quarter and outscored the Scoopers 15-3 in the second to take a 38-7 halftime lead.

Central continued to dominate in the second half, outscoring the Scoopes 22-8 in the third and rolled to a 68-24 win.

Jordan Heckert led the Cobblers with 19 points, hitting four three-pointers. Kenya Merrival added 13 points.

Sturgis was led by Sarah Janz with 15 points.

The loss ends the Scoopes season with a 4-16 record. Sturgis will mis the SoDak 16 this year, sitting in the 17th spot of 18 teams in Class AA.

The boys also dropped their game to Central 82-48, but will make the postseason.

Sturgis lead only momentarily on a 3-point shot by Connor Korth to make it 7-5 early in the first quarter. Central would go on a run the rest of the quarter and led the Scoopers 28-12 headed into the second. The cobblers led 43-24 at halftime and used a 28-13 push in the third quarter to put the game away.

Julian Swallow led all scorers with 23 points. Micah Swallow added 19 for the Cobblers.

Sturgis was led by Marcus Myrick, with 11 points.

The Scooper boys will travel to Yankton to take on the top seeded Bucks in the SoDak 16 Saturday.
