Sturgis Area Politics: No election for city council, Bradley throws hat in ring for county commisison

Gary Matthews - February 26, 2018

STURGIS, S.D. – In local political news, there will be no municipal election this year for the Sturgis City Council.

The city finance office says only one petition was received for each of the four wards as of Friday’s deadline.

Winning candidates for those wards are Terry Keszler for Ward 1, Bekka Zerbst for Ward 2, Ron Waterland for Ward 3 and Rhea Crane for Ward 4.

All four candidates will automatically advance to their respective Council positions on April 2, 2018.

In other political news, soon-to-be former councilman Rod Bradley has announced he is running for Meade County Commission, District 1.

District 1 is the largest district geographically and includes approximately 40-percent of the assess value of property in Meade County.  It includes all of the northern, central and eastern sections of Meade County.

Bradley, in a press release, says he wants to work with the other county commissioners and employees of Meade County to “really connect with the residents who they are supposed to be serving.”

New Underwood’s Galen Niederwerder is currently serving as District 1 Commissioner.
