Sturgis Titans split doubleheader with Dickinson

STURGIS, S.D. - Sturgis split a pair of games with Dickinson at Strong Field Monday night -- the final home games of the year for the Titans.

In game one, Sturgis scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to beat the Roughriders 15-5.

Dickinson scored first as a double by Jaren Hughelen brought home Justin Berger.

Sturgis would answer in the bottom of the second, scoring four runs. Nick Anderson and Dylan Gillespie scored on a Carl Nash double. Josh West would then score on a single by Gage Murphey and Nash came home on a Kelton Olson single.

Dickinson answered right back with 3 runs in the third as Berger scored on an errant throw at home plate, and Hughelen and Nathaniel Jilek scored on a sacrifice pop fly.

But Sturgis would answer right back with 2 in the third, 2 in the fourth and seven in the fifth. Gillespie, Josh West, John Fischer, Zach Hess, Ridge Inhofer, Anderson and Colton Cruickshank all scored in that seventh inning explosion.

Josh West helped lead Sturgis going 3 for 4 with 3 R.B.I.'s. Dylan Gilliespie went 2 for 4 with 2 R.B.I.'s. Carl Nash got the pitching win, striking out six.

In game two, both teams went scoreless until the third inning when Sturgis scored three runs. Murphey scored the first run on a hit by Zach Hess. Devin Odle would come home off a hit by Josh West and Ridge Inhofer scored on a Nick Anderson single.

Dickinson answered with four runs in the fourth as Cody Maier scored on a pop fly, Kobe Krenz came home on an errant throw and Hughelen scored on a Aiden Haich hit.

Sturgis then gave themselves a three run advantage by scoring four in the bottom of the sixth. Murphey and Odle both scored on an Inhofer double. Inhofer would then come home on a Hess triple. Hess then came home on a errant throw at home plate.

Dickinson then clinched it in the seventh as Nathantiel Jilek smashed a three-run home run off Kelton Olson to give the Roughriders a 10-7 lead after Justin Berger hit a 2 R.B.I. blast to tie it.

Sturgis would put two runners on in the bottom of the seventh, but Dickinson put in Logan Bentz to close out the pitching and Bentz delivered with a strikeout.

Berger helped lead Dickinson going 2 for 4 with 2 R.B.I.'s.

For Sturgis, Hess finished 2 for 4 with 2 R.B.I's and Inhofer was 3 for 4 with 2 R.B.I.'s.

Colton Cruickshank was starting pitcher for Sturgis and gets the loss.
