Sturgis celebrates opening of new medical facilities

News Staff - March 2, 2018

STURGIS, SD – A milestone was marked this week in Sturgis with the opening of the new $10.3 million expansion of Regional Health Sturgis Hospital and Clinic.

The new 20,000 square-foot clinic includes 36 medical examination rooms, four urgent care and walk-in exam rooms, three clinical procedure rooms and one physical therapy clinic. The floor plan is a three pod design. There are  exam room entrances for both patients to the outside and entrances for the care givers on the inside-a design meant to alleviate what can sometimes be a disruptive flow.

Since 1951, patients in the Sturgis area have received medical care at Massa Berry Clinic. In 1996, Regional Health purchased the clinic. In 2002, the conglomerate purchased Sturgis Community Hospital from Banner Health.

Dr. Charles Lewis , Sturgis Community Medical Director and long-time Sturgis physician, credits progressive leadership in ensuring Sturgis not only retained the local hospital but in addition, expanded health care services over the years.

Staff includes 14 doctors and 240 additional health care professionals
