Sturgis hosts annual Black Hills Track Classic Saturday

STURGIS, S.D. - Area athletes competed at the Black Hills Track Classic in Sturgis Saturday.

On the boys side, Jacob Young of St Thomas More won the 100 and 200-meters. Cash Wilson of Wall captured first in the 400 and Ethan Brenneman of Sturgis won the 800-meters in a time of 1:55.90. Garret Avery of Sheridan won the 1,600 meters and his teammate, Reese Charest won the 3,200 meters.

In the hurdles, Alec Riegert of Sheridan won the 110-meters with Gavin West of Sturgis finishing in thid. Riegert also captured the 300-meter hurdles with West in third.

In the relay races, Rapid City Central won the 4x100 and the 4x200. Sheridan captured the 4x400 title and Spearfish won the 4x800. Sturgis placed second in the 4x800.

Shane Collins of Bison won the shot put, Jake Maher of Pierre won the discus, David Severson of Douglas claimed the high jump title Wyatt Christensen of St Thomas More won the Pole Vault.

The long jump title went to Remar Pitter of Campbell County, Wyoming and Alec Keffeler of Sturgis won the triple jump.

On the girls side, Hannah Young of Rapid City Central won the 100 and 200-meters. Josey Wahlstrom of Custer captured first place in the 400-meters and Hailey Jones of Moorcroft finished just ahead of Kaci Cooper of St Thomas More for the 800-meter title. Hailey Jones also won the 1,600-meters while Abby Cutler of Hil City won the 3,200-meters.

Rachel Petersburg of Sheridan won the 100-meter hurdles. Elizabeth Schaefer of Stevens was the top qualifier, but did not run in the finals. Piper O'Dell of Sheridan won the 300-meter hurdles.

In the relay races, Rapid City Central won the 4x100 and 4x200 meters. Sturgis captured the 4x400 meter relays as Rachel Cammack, Loralee Stock, Sydney Shaw and Olivia Jolley finished in a time of 4:13.52.

Custer won the 4x800-meter relay and Hill City won the 1,600 medley. Sturgis brought home third.

Jordan Christensen of Sheridan won the shot put and the discus. Madyson Godwin of Sheridan won the high jump, with Olivia Jolley of Sturgis placing third. Madisyn Trupe of Stevens won the pole vaule with Cassidy Joresnson and Breezy Paul of Sturgis in second and third.

Nyomi Moore of Campbell County won the long jump and Makayla Keffeler of Sturgis won the triple jump.
