Sunday COVID-19 Update – New high for active cases, no new deaths reported

STURGIS, S.D. – South Dakota health officials reported 617 new cases of COVID-19 Sunday with 542 confirmed and 75 of them considered probable courtesy of antigen testing.

For the first time in several days, there were no new deaths reported but the state recorded another new high for active cases as they rose 332 today to 5,865.

The number of people hospitalized due to the virus dropped one today to 266.

New cases across the Black Hills area totaled 114 with Pennington County accounting for 58 of them. Pennington saw their cumulative total rise to 3,121 and their active cases increase to 630.

Meade County recorded 18 new cases Sunday, sending the cumulative total to 709 and 140 remain active.

Lawrence County added 11 new cases today, with 123 cases out of 561 remaining active.

Butte and Custer counties each added 6 new COVID-19 cases today. Butte County has a cumulative total of 167 with 52 remaining active. Custer County has 218 total with 35 active cases.

Elsewhere across West River, Todd County reported 11 new cases, Oglala Lakota added 10, Fall River, Perkins and Dewey each added 5, Stanley, Haakon and Jackson counties each had 2, Lyman, Tripp and Gregory had 2 each and there was one case each in Harding, Corson, Ziebach and Bennett counties.

Across all of West River, there were 154 new cases reported Sunday.
