Suspects in the Rooster burglary indicted by federal grand jury

News Staff - September 11, 2018

RAPID CITY, S.D. - Two men who are accused of stealing two dozen firearms from a Rapid City sporting goods store have been indicted on gun charges by a federal grand jury.

Zephaniah Thompson, age 28, of Fairburn and Matthew Keifer, age 30 of Rapid City, are both charged with theft of a firearm and possession of stolen firearms in connection with the burglary at the Rooster on East Main Street.

Thompson is also charged with possession of a firearm with an altered serial number.

The theft and possession charges carry up to ten years in prison if they're convicted and the serial number charge could mean as much as five years behind bars.

The pair was arrested the day after the burglary and police say they've recovered 22 of the 24 stolen guns.
