Testing continues in nursing homes, assisted living facilities in South Dakota

PIERRE, SD – The state is now in the second week of testing residents and staff at South Dakota’s nursing homes and assisted living facilities for the COVID-19 virus.

Health Secretary Kim Malsam-Rysdon says as of Wednesday (May 27) about 1,900 residents have been tested as well as more than 2,750 staff.

“In addition, we have 6,600 tests that are in progress so those are happening over the next couple of days,” says Malsam-Rysdon.  “And 4,400 tests are scheduled.”

Malsam-Rysdon says the health department isn’t releasing the test results at this time.

“We’re waiting until we have more of the data complete,” explains Malsam-Rysdon. “But I can tell you the number of positives have been very low.”

The Health Department updates the covid.sd.gov website daily.
