Track and Field athletes compete at Black Hills Conference Meet

SPEARFISH, S.D. - Area track and field athletes competed at the Black Hills Conference Meet in Spearfish Friday.

The Sturgis Scoopers won the boys team title and the Spearfish Spartans won the girls title.

Sturgis finished with 172 points and St Thomas More placed second.

The Spartans won the girls title with 150 points and Sturgis came in second with 144.5.

There were several multiple event winners on the day.

Haleigh Timmer of St Thomas More won the girls 800-meters and was part of the Cavalier relay team that won the 4-x-400. Her teammate Kaci Cooper won the 200 and 400-meters.

JordynToliver of Douglas won the long jump, the 100 meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles.

Olivia Jolley of Sturgis won the high jump and her teammate Cassidy Jorensen won the pole vault. Makayla Keffeler gave the Scooper girls another victory in the triple jump. Sturgis also won the 1,600 sprint medley. 

In other relay races, St Thomas More won the 4-x-100, Spearfish captured the 4-x-200 and Custer took the 4-x-800.

On the boys side, Alec Keffeler of Sturgis won the triple jump and his teammate Ethan Brennemam won the 800-meters. Gavin West won the 110-meter hurdles for Sturgis. The Scooper relay team also captured first place in the 1,600 spring medley.

Jacob Hyde of St Thomas More was a triple event winner. He won the 100, 200 and 400-meters. 

Jens Christensen of St Thomas More broke his own meet record in the pole vault with a jump of 13-feet, 9-inches.
