West River caregiver tests positive for COVID-19

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Monument Health says one of their caregivers who works in Rapid City and lives in Meade County, has tested positive for COVID-19.

It would be the first positive COVID-19 test result in the Black Hills region.

According to a Monument Health spokesperson, they are working through protocols to inform and isolate everyone who has been in direct contact with the patient.

Monument also says the patient is known to have contracted the virus while traveling within the United States.

The Monument spokesperson says “We’ve been preparing for positive COVID-19 patients in our communities. We will follow our capacity and emergency plans to scale our operations to meet the community’s needs.”

No other information was released and the case is expected to be part of Wednesday’s daily briefing with the Governor and Department of Health.
