Williams and Ree headline first Rodeo Rapid City PRCA performance

News Staff - January 11, 2019

RAPID CITY, SD – If you’re expecting politically correct humor from entertainment duo “Williams and Ree,” you’re looking in the wrong place.  But if comic relief is your thing – laced with the kind of humor only found in cowboy and Indian country, then you’ll want to be in the seats for Rodeo Rapid City’s performance with “Williams and Ree.”

Billed as “The Indian and the White Guy,” the performers and long-time Sutton family friends, will headline the first night of PRCA rodeo on Friday, January 25, 2019 in the Barnett Arena  at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center beginning at 7:30pm.

Bruce Williams, aka "The White Guy," and Terry Ree, aka "The Indian," met in 1968 at Black Hills State College in Spearfish, SD, where they began performing together. Over the years, they honed their act into a unique and sometimes bawdy blend of music and comedy that often pokes fun at race relations in South Dakota… the kind of humor that only Williams and Ree can get away with.

The history they share as performers with the Sutton family runs deep.  In the early days of developing what would become Rodeo Rapid City – back in the days of what was a brand new civic center with city leaders who were skeptical of Jim Sutton’s idea to fill their shiny, new sports arena with 80 loads of dirt and 160 tons of woodchips – Williams and Ree would lend their star power to the Sutton Rodeo offerings.  Those early shows helped cement the rodeo family’s reputation for putting on something more than a rodeo by introducing world-class entertainers,  anchored with rodeo performances.

The primary flavor of the pair’s on-stage presentation is still music, which earned them a Country Music Association vocal duo nomination. Williams and Ree have performed with  Garth Brooks, The Oak Ridge Boys and Tim McGraw, and have made many television appearances on The Nashville Network. At present, they host four Country Music Festivals in the U.S. and Canada. They are featured on Sirius Radio with,  “The Red, White, and Slightly Blue Show.”

The duo has been inducted into the Legends of Dakota Country Music Hall of Fame.

Ticket price for Friday, Jan 25th includes the PRCA Rodeo Rapid City performance and the “Williams and Ree” show.  Tickets are available at www.gotmine.com; 1-800-GOT-MINE; at Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Box Office, Silverado-Franklin in Deadwood, SD,  or Outdoor Rec at EAFB, SD.
