Wireless network coming to portions of rural Pennington, Lawrence counties

News Staff - October 22, 2020

RAPIID CITY, SD - A $6 million, fixed-wireless network is coming to parts of rural Pennington and Lawrence counties.  The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is investing $6 million to provide the broadband service. It's  part of the $550 million Congress allocated to the second round of the ReConnect Program.

"High-speed internet e-connectivity allows businesses access to global markets, remote learning for students, and greater access to all kinds of health care," USDA Rural Development Rural Utilities Service Administrator Chad Rupe said.

SDN Communications will use the $6 million ReConnect grant to deploy a fixed-wireless network to connect 1,112 people, 16 businesses and three farms to high-speed broadband internet in Pennington and Lawrence counties in South Dakota.
