Woman accused of calling false report to school makes court appearance

News Staff - September 14, 2018

RAPID CITY, S.D. - The woman accused of calling a false report to police that led to the temporary lockdown of the Pinedale Elementary School in Rapid City pleaded not guilty Friday.

Ricky Peck made an appearance via video from the Pennington County Jail.

The 29-year-old woman, who suffers from seizures, pleaded not guilty to three counts of making a false report and a single count of disturbing a school.

Judge Marya Tellinghuisen set Peck's bond at $1,000 cash or surety bond.

Police say they received a tip of a gunman at Pindedale Elementary School on Wednesday, but further investigation indicated the report was false.

Police alleged Peck made the call while she was at the school with her mother to pick up Peck's child.

Peck was originally scheduled to make her first court appearance Thursday, but jail personnel say she was medically unable. Peck was taken to the hospital after the incident Wednesday, according to police.

Peck will be in court for a motions hearing on September 28.

She faces up to a year in jail and a $2,000 fine if convicted.
