Xtreme Broncs Finals set for tonight at Central States Fair

F.Ganje - August 22, 2019

RAPID CITY, SD – The first ever finals in a PRCA sanctioned saddle bronc match will see the chutes swing open on 24 bronc riders tonight at the Central States Fair. Ron Jeffries, CSF manager shares how the event came to be.

“Rory Lemmel came up with the idea of creating the Xtreme Broncs Finals” shares Jeffries.  “He went to the PRCA and lobbied for a finals event in saddle bronc similar to what the PRCA does in bulls. As the producer, he would select the host site and we’re fortunate that we’re it.”

Having negotiated for a five year host site agreement, Jeffries says the event enhances other PRCA Range Days Rodeos held during fair week.

“Range Days has always been a great rodeo,” says Jeffries.  “But it will be enhanced this year with more stock contractors coming for the Xtreme Broncs event and additional contestants also coming.  What that does is beef up the regular rodeo performances as well.”

The bronc match concept isn’t a new one.  Many of the seven contractors bringing horses for tonight’s inaugural event, including Sutton Rodeos, have showcased bronc matches at their rodeos for many years.  When the PRCA decided to sanction the matches that allows for points and money towards world standings, it put a shine on an event where roots run deep in the Dakota’s Montana, Wyoming and Nebraska.

“We are so lucky – as a region – to have good rodeo people in our own back yard,” shares Jeffries. “When you go to Vegas, you’ll see the top 15.  Here, you’ll see the top 24 bronc riders in the world.”

Tonight’s performance (Thurs., August 22nd) at 7pm is sure to be a sell-out crowd.  Burch Rodeo Company, Rozet, WY has hand-picked guest stock contractors ensuring for an edge-of-your-seat performance.  And with the amount of added money at $50,000, the talent pool of the 24 bronc riders entered up for this first-ever finals event, is deep.

“With the level of cowboy talent and bucking stock, it could be anybody’s night” observes Jeffries. “Any match up could win this thing.”

He continued, “This is a nationally televised event, broadcasting multiple times. It will be the single, biggest day of saddle bronc history – ever – in South Dakota.”
