Yellow Jacket woman thrill in regular season finale with win over Tech

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women’s basketball team held off the SD School of Mines of Hardrockers in a 4th quarter thriller to win the last regular season basketball game of the season. The Yellow Jackets finish the regular season 17-10 overall and 14-8 in the RMAC. With the win over the Hardrockers, the Green and Gold finish fifth in the regular season and will likely play CO School of Mines on Tuesday.

The Yellow Jackets opened up hot and quickly jumped to a 16-9 lead in the first ten minutes of play. The second quarter was an offensive shoot out with the Hardrockers taking a slight 32-31 lead at half. BHSU came back after half cold and allowed SDSMT to pull head by nine. It was all buckets for the Yellow Jackets in the fourth quarter as they scored 19 points and shut down the Hardrockers allowing only eight points to get the win 60-58.

On the night, the Yellow Jackets shot 26 for 60 (43%) with five of those shots coming from downtown. The team didn’t have much chances at the charity strip drawing just four fouls shooting 3 for 4 (75 percent).

Racquel Wientjes posted a double-double scoring 20 points and pulling down ten rebounds. She was 8 for 17 overall. Morgan ham was also in double digits with 11 points. Katie Messler had a big momentum impact pulling down seven boards.

The Green and Gold now wait for official RMAC post season seedings, but it is looking like they will play CO Mines Tuesday night in Golden for the first round of the RMAC tournament.

Meanwhile, in the mens game, it was a buzzer beater as well as the Yellow Jackets edge the Hardrockers 59-58.
