PIERRE, S.D. – The abortion debate in South Dakota could officially be up to voters come November.
It was announced Friday by Secretary of State Monae Johnson that a proposed constitutional amendment has qualified for this year’s ballot called Constitutional Amendment G.
The move was approved by the minimum 35-thousand-17 petition signatures needed in an effort led by Rick Weiland.
This ballot measure will determine establishing a right to abortion in the State Constitution and also provides a legal frame for the regulation of abortion.
The deadline to challenge the validation is Monday, June 17th, with the group Life Defense Fund already planning to challenge the legal validity of petition signatures.
