Active cases decrease, hospitalizations up a bit in Tuesday COVID-19 report

PIERRE, S.D. – New COVID-19 cases Tuesday totaled 739 with 177 of those listed as probable. The Department of Health says today’s update includes numbers from Saturday and Sunday.

Active cases decreased by 140 to 5,679 and the number of people hospitalized due to the virus saw a slight uptick to 195.

One new death was reported, sending the state’s death toll to 2,203. The new death was a male out of Faulk County in the 70-79 age range.

New cases across the Black Hills area included 171 in Pennington County, where 33 of those were listed under the probable category.

Meade County reported 23 confirmed and 2 probable new cases and Lawrence County listed 23 new cases – all confirmed.

Butte County totaled 14 new cases with 2 of those considered as probable.

Elsewhere, Custer County had 5 confirmed, 2 probable, Oglala Lakota County reported 10 confirmed, 2 probable, and Fall River had 4 new cases.

As of Tuesday, 66.16% of the population 12-years-old and above has received at least one dose while 57.12% have completed the vaccination series.
