PIERRE, S.D. – Active cases tumbled as did new cases Tuesday as the South Dakota Department of Health reported 448 new COVID-19 cases in their daily report.
The last time the state reported such a low number of cases was October 6th when 278 cases were reported.
Coupled with new recoveries today, active cases of the virus tumbled 3,096 to just over 14,000.
Hospitalizations were up one to 547 and two new deaths were reported.
Across West River counties, there were 134 new cases reported.
Pennington County added 63 new cases Tuesday, Lawrence County had 16 and Meade County reported 10.
Pennington County’s active cases decreased nearly 300 today to 1,625. Lawrence and Meade also saw a decrease in active cases as Lawrence County dropped 73 to 350 and Meade County dropped 45 to 319.
Other new cases across West River counties today included 9 in Oglala Lakota, 6 in Dewey, 4 each in Butte, Custer, Perkins, Corson and Todd, 3 in Lyman, 2 each in Tripp and Mellette and one each in Harding, Haakon and Gregory.
There were 1,681 new persons tested reported on Tuesday. Tuesday’s new person tested positivity rate is 26%.
