STURGIS, S.D. – Health officials reported 1,585 new cases of COVID-19 in their weekly report. That is up from 1,438 last week.
Active cases, however, saw a significant drop as the Department of Health listed 1,114 – down from 4,210 active cases last week.
Hospitalizations due to the virus shot back up to 105 and five new deaths were reported. One of the new deaths was out of Pennington County, where there have been 355 since the pandemic started. The state’s death toll is now at 2,984.
Across the Black Hills area, Pennington County reported the most new cases this week with 294 – up from 258 last week.
The third highest amount of new cases was reported out of Meade County, where 80 were reported. Lawrence County added 49 new cases.
Elsewhere, Oglala Lakota County reported 96 new cases, Butte County listed 27, Fall River County tallied 23 and there were 19 new cases out of Custer County. Harding County also reported one new case this week.
