PIERRE, S.D. – Active cases of COVID-19 continue their increase across South Dakota as state health officials reported 395 new cases Tuesday. Today’s numbers includes results from the weekend. Of the 395 new cases, there are 32 considered as probable.
The active number of cases in the state increased by 284 today to 1,639. The number of people in the hospital due to the virus also increased to 92. Across the Black Hills region, there are 39 people hospitalized with COVID-19 with 13 of them in the I.C.U. and 6 on ventilators.
Two new deaths were reported, sending the state’s death toll since the pandemic began to 2,055. One of the new deaths was out of Custer County.
Across the Black Hills area, there were 182 new cases, with 12 of those listed as probable.
Pennington County had 94 confirmed and 6 probable for a total of 100 new cases.
Meade County had 2 new probable cases and 34 confirmed new cases.
Lawrence County added 25 new cases.
Custer saw 7 confirmed new cases and one probable and Butte County reported 5 new cases.
There were 4 new cases each in Fall River and Oglala Lakota counties.
Some good news on the vaccination front – as the Department of Health has reported the numbers have gone up. So far, 60-percent of those 12 and older have received at least one dose of vaccination. Those who have completed their vaccination is now at 55.15-percent.
