Active Cases of COVID-19 hit another new high at 34,086; nine new deaths

PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota set another new high for active COVID-19 cases as the Department of Health reported 34,086 Thursday.

New cases totaled 2,588 with 630 of those listed as probable.

Hospitalizations because of the virus have surpassed 400 statewide as health care providers report 403 individuals under their care. Monument Health has 73 of those patients.

Nine new deaths were reported today, sending the state’s death toll to 2,582. Three of those deaths were out of Pennington County, where the death toll surpassed 300 Thursday to 302.

New cases across the Black Hills area included 392 out of Pennington County. Of those, 61 were listed as probable.

Meade County reported 85 new cases with 6 of those probable and Lawrence County had 82 total new cases with 2 of those probable.

Elsewhere, Oglala Lakota County saw an increase of 204 cases, Butte County had 23, Fall River County added 32 new cases, Custer County showed 24 and Harding County had an additional 7 new cases Thursday.
