PIERRE, S.D. – The active number of COVID-19 cases in South Dakota has surpassed 7,000 as the state Department of Health reported 615 new cases in their Friday report.
Among the 615 new cases are 165 considered probable.
Active cases total 7,032, an increase of 282 over Thursday.
The number of people hospitalized dropped by 4 to 203 but there five new deaths reported Friday, sending the state’s death toll to 2,084.
Pennington County added 133 total new cases Friday, with 38 of those listed as probable.
In Meade County, there were 33 confirmed cases and 2 probable. Lawrence County had 24 confirmed and one probable.
Elsewhere across the Black Hills region, Butte County had 26 new cases, Custer County added 16, and Fall River and Harding Counties each added 5 new cases.
