Active cases reach new high, 23 deaths reported in Sunday COVID-19 Report

PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota saw a new high for active COVID-19 cases Sunday as 1,199 new cases were reported.

The active number cases surpasses 19,000 to a new high of 19,360.

It was also another deadly report as 23 new deaths were reported, sending the state’s death toll to 644.

The number of people hospitalized rose by 4 to 553.

There were 317 new cases West River with Pennington County tallying 146 of them. Pennington County’s cumulative total rises to 6,993 and active cases number 2,146.

Meade County had the second most new cases Sunday with 40. Meade County’s total is 1,419 with 361 remaining active.

Lawrence County added 37 new cases, sending the cumulative total to 1,644 with 557 remaining active.

And, Butte County added 14 new cases Sunday, giving them a total of 608 with 202 remaining active.

Other new cases West River Sunday include 19 in Oglala Lakota, 10 in Tripp, 8 in Fall River, 7 in Todd, 6 each in Lyman and Gregory, 5 each in Custer and Stanley, 4 in Bennett, 3 each in Dewey and Mellette, 2 in Jackson and one each in Perkins and Corson counties.
