SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – A man who’s dedicated his career to helping others is accused of embezzling money from those under his care. Earvin Archambeau is currently the executive director for the South Dakota chapter of the National Association of Social Workers according to their website. The charges come from his time working at The Arch, a residential treatment facility.
Court documents say Archambeau worked at The Arch run by The Carroll Institute as a counselor for five years. In January 2023 he was promoted to a role where he was responsible for putting residents’ money into a bank account for them to later use.
In October, a tip led to a closer look at account records, where there appeared to be an issue.
Documents say, “All the unaccounted-for money stemmed from the collection process where Earvin was the last point of contact before the money was deposited at the bank.”
Court papers say he also made his then-girlfriend make a cash deposit of $6,950 on his behalf and told her it was for a Land Rover he had purchased.
Investigators found $18,998 from clients did not make it to the bank leading to his termination at The Arch. When contacted by officials over the phone, they say Archambeau took responsibility for the missing funds and told them he was quote, “….having mental health issues during the time frame of the missing funds and had to get professional help.”
KELO News reached out to the National Association of Social Workers and The Arch and neither returned calls. Archambeau made bail that was set at $1,000 cash. His initial court hearing will be in Minnehaha County on Monday, April 8.
