WATERTOWN, SD – Glacial Lakes Energy and its four biorefineries have joined a partnership with Summit Carbon Solutions. Glacial Lakes CEO Jim Seurer says it’s an exciting and large project where Summit has partnered with biorefineries throughout the upper Midwest to capture, transport and store carbon dioxide underground.
“It’s a collection system that will run through Iowa, Minnesota and South Dakota. The system continues to North Dakota where geological formations are such that we can inject the carbon dioxide into the ground,” explained Jim Seurer.
He says being part of this project will help them reduce their carbon footprint by 40 to 50 percent.
“It’s a significant step forward for our industry,” said Seurer. “It’s a huge project and a very exciting project. It will reduce our carbon footprint by almost half.”
Seurer says their gallon contribution represents about 18 percent of the total project and fits in well with what they’re already doing.
Summit’s total project will result in annual reduction of 10 million tons of carbon dioxide or the carbon footprint equivalent of two million automobiles.
