Al Staab, 91, formerly of Sioux Falls and Galena, South Dakota passed away Friday, December 13, 2024, at his home in LaVista, Nebraska.
Al was born May 4,1933, on the family farm near Pipestone, Minnesota. He joined the United States Navy on November 7, 1950, serving on the Hospital Ship USS Haven during the Korean War until he was honorably discharged in 1954. On May 26,1952, he was joined in marriage to Donna Rose Deiterman and remained married until her death in 2005. Together they raised seven children in Sioux Falls: Steve (LaVina) of Sioux Falls; Lana of Clarksville, MN; Joe (Mary) of Mesquite, NV; Gina (Shawn) Peters of Ridgecrest, CA; Matt (Lisa) of Brandon, SD; Chris (Juli) of Papillion, NE and Cara (Jeff Shearer) of Silver City, NM; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and one great – great grandchild.
Al was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; his son, Steve; his grandson, Matt; his parents, Paul and Margaret; all 12 of his brothers and sisters and his beloved dog, Sage.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, December 19, 2024, at St. Columbkille Catholic Church, 200 E 6th St, Papillion, NE. Interment at Black Hill National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD on Monday, December 23, 2024, at 10:30 am MST. A celebration of life will be held in the near future in Sioux Falls.
