STURGIS, S.D. – Officials with AMA Pro Racing are hoping to still hold a flat track race on the streets of downtown Sturgis on the final day of this year’s Rally after voters last month rejected a host services agreement involving the city.
The group approached the Sturgis City Council this week and say they plan to hold a public meeting next week to unveil a new plan.
That’s Cameron Gray with AMA Pro Racing. He says the new plan involves zero financial interest with the city.
One of the concerns the public had was the amount of money the city was being asked to contribute to help with race barriers. Community members and Businesses also felt left out of the initial discussion. Gray says this time, they will lay out the entire new plan for the community at a special meeting to be held Tuesday, May 14 at the Sturgis Community Center.
Gray says AMA believes this race will work for Sturgis.
The public meeting is tentatively set for 6:00 p.m. Gray says they were working on finalizing that time.
