Annual report indicates Sturgis bridges in satisfactory condition

STURGIS, S.D. – Sturgis Council members got an update from Brosz Engineering Monday night on the annual bridge inspection report.

Donald Hammond from Brosz says overall, the structures in the city remain in satisfactory condition. He says none require immediate attention, although they do have some preservation or rehabilitation recommendations regarding one bridge and two box culverts.

Engineers are recommending some concrete repair and deck surface sealing on a bridge on Whitewood Road. Hammond says the concrete on the tops of the wingwalls is breaking up and should be repaired. He is also recommending sealilng the deck surface as there is light cracking near the bents and longitudinal cracking near centerline that would benefit from sort of sealant.

Engineers are also recommending sealing cracks on two box culverts located in the Deadman concrete canal that runs through south and east Sturgis into Bear Butte Creek.
