Another round of severe weather brings large hail to Hot Springs, Kadoka

HOT SPRINGS, S.D. – Another round of severe weather struck western South Dakota Monday, and this time, Hot Springs and Kadoka are reporting damage from large hail.

Residents in Hot Springs say hail to the size of baseballs brought car, home and tree damage.

In Kadoka, forecasters say wind driven tennis ball size hail hit just after midnight, resulting in damage and power outages.

The latest destructive weather follows two days of similar storms that brought damage to several other west river communities over the weekend.

Wind driven baseball sized hail hit Belle Fourche Sunday night, where clean up began on Monday.

Warning Coordination Meteorologist Susan Sanders with the NWS in Rapid City says hail storms are certainly not uncommon this time of year, but the hail has been a little on the extreme side.

In the Philip area, hit by storms on both Saturday and Sunday, some customers remained without power late yesterday as crews worked to replace numerous power poles that were down.
