Another triple-digit increase in new COVID-19 cases reported Friday

PIERRE, S.D. – It was another triple-digit increase in the number of new COVID-19 cases, as the state department of health reported 127 new positive tests for the virus Friday. There were also two new COVID-19 related deaths reported.

Both deaths were listed in the 80+ age range. One new death was a man and the other was a woman. The death toll is now at 150.

Minnehaha County saw the biggest number of cases Friday, with 40.

Pennington County added 9 new cases, sending their cumulative total to 924 with 109 of them active.

Elsewhere across the Black Hills area, Lawrence and Custer each reported one new case. The active number of cases in Lawrence County is up one with the new positive test to 23. Custer’s active number of cases remained at 9.

Meade County reported no new cases today, and their active number of cases is down 3 to 17.

Across western South Dakota, Dewey County reported 8 new cases Friday and Corson County added four. Stanley and Todd counties each added one.

The number of active cases across the state is up 43 today, to 1,101.

There are 65 people currently hospitalized; up 9 from Thursday.
