RAPID CITY, S.D. – An anti-abortion group formed to oppose Constitutional Amendment G is dropping its lawsuit against the group bringing the initiative.
South Dakota voters rejected Amendment G, 59 to 41 percent, earlier this month.
“The people have decided, and South Dakotans overwhelmingly rejected this constitutional abortion measure. We have won in the court of public opinion, and South Dakotans clearly saw the abortion lobby’s deception,” said Leslee Unruh, co-chair of Life Defense Fund. “We are extremely grateful to every South Dakotan who stood up to protect women and children from danger by voting no on Amendment G.”
The lawsuit sought to invalidate signatures gathered by Dakotans For Health.
Life Defense Fund argued the ballot question was invalid, in part for not following a 2018 law that was changed a year later, then invalidated by federal courts.
The request to drop litigation comes just before the result of a summary judgement was expected December 2nd.
