Area athletes compete at annual Queen City Classic

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The annual Queen City Classic was held Friday in Spearfish.

In the team standings, Rapid City Stevens won the girls title and Sheridan won the boys.

On the boys side, Braden Delahoyde of Spearfish was the lone double event winner. He won the 400 meters and the high jump.

His teammate Jaden Guthmiller won the 200 meters, Sawyer Clarkson of Belle Fourche won the 3,200.

Mickael Grace of Custer captured the 110 meter hurdles and Tanner Lunders of Stevens won the 300 meter hurdles.

In field events, Aiden Giffin of Belle Fourche won the long jump and Ethan Burnett of St Thomas More won the triple jump.

On the girls side, Custer had Josey Wahlstrom win the 400 and Peyton VanDeest of Spearfish won the 1,600 and 3,200 meters.

Matayah Yellow Mule of Rapid City Central won the long jump and triple jump.

Baylee Van Zee of Stevens won the 100 meter hurdles.

In relay races, Sturgis won the 4 x 800 meter relay title. The Scooper boys also came home second behind Sheridan in the 4 x 400. The Stevens boys won the 4 x 200 meter relay with Sturgis fnishing in third. The Sturgis girls also captured third in their 4 x 200 meter relay and second in the 4 x 800.
