STURGIS, S.D. – Sturgis hosted the annual Scooper Invite Track and Field Meet Tuesday at Woodle Field and several Sturgis athletes brought home wins at this year’s event.
Owen Koontz captured the 800 meters with a time of 2:03.07 and Ty Petrocco won the 3,200 meters in a time of 10:27.05.
The Sturgis boys swept the hurdles as Aiden Hedderman won the 110 meters and Nathanael Jones won the 300 meters.
Elsewhere in boys events, Julian Scott of Stevens captured the 100 meters while Landen Matkins won the 200. Blake Boyer of Custer had the fastest time in the 400 meters and Sawyer Clarkson took first in the 1,600 meters.
In the relay races, Stevens won the 4×100, Rapid City Central captured the 4×200 and Custer won the 4×400, 4×800 and the Medley.
In field events, William Paepke of Central won the shot put, Conner Warren of RC Central claimed the Discus Throw, Sam Marcus of Spearfish won the Javelin, Beck Morgan of Steven captured the high jump, Robbie Emery won the pole vault and Madinko Hawley of Stevens took the long jump.
Isaac Flanegan of Central won the triple jump.
On the women’s side, Scooper Avery Marler won the 400 meters in a time of 1:02.35 and Novali Dinkins won the 800 meters in a time of 2:27.17. The Scoopers also won the 4×400 meter relay and the 4×800 meter relay. Scooper Avery Marler also captured the long jump title.
Other winners include Jordyn Larsen of Custer in the 100 meters, Alaina Dean of Hill City in the 200 meters, Ramsey Karim of Custer in the 1,600 meters, Kira Ubance of Douglas in the 3,200, Claire Fierro of Stevens in the 100 meter hurdles and Jada Backes of RC Central in the 300 meter hurdles.
Rapid City Stevens won the 4×100 and 4×200 meter relay as well as the Medley relay.
In field events, Torri Virtue of Custer won the shot put and discus, Brynn Nelson of Stevens captured the javelin, Hailey Bruce of Stevens won the high jump, Ciana Stiefel of Custer took the pole vault and Rebecca Theis of Stevens won the triple jump.
